Hi I'm Kemi B
Born in London in the late 60s I grew up in a home that was full of music. My dad was a saxophonist in a jazz band in the 50s/60s, so I grew up listening to music by the likes of Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Louis Armstrong, Eddie Harris, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, Lester Young, Ornette Coleman, Nat King Cole to mention a few, what I would call old time jazz, not really my kind of thing.
Being more or less a loner, my only pass time really was listening to music and as I grew older and was exposed to different genre, Acid jazz, Jazz Funk, Brit Funk, Funk, Disco, Soul, Gospel, R & B, I was gradually able to identify what made me feel good, Smooth Jazz. Not that I didn’t listen to anything else, but Smooth Jazz just felt like home, so much so that in later years I learnt to play the saxophone.
There is really nothing like it, lovely soulful instrumental tunes that can take you to another place, but that does not negate the fact that I also love slow jams, the kind of songs that give you Goosebumps and make your hair stand on end, songs that speak to you, where the words of the song say what’s on your heart but you can’t find the words to say.
My friends laugh but that is me, I have an affinity for songs that have a heavy presence of drum and bass, you can never have enough bass. I am that driver that you can hear a mile away because the sound of the bass is at a ridiculous level.
I’m really excited to be joining the LMR family, I’m no expert but just a lover of really good music and you can expect to hear a mix of Smooth Jazz, Jazz Funk, Acid Jazz, Jazz Fusion, Disco, Rare Grooves, Soul, R & B, a lot of forgotten tracks from the 70s and 80s, and my well known for slow tempos.
There is the saying that “My music taste is so hard to describe, it’s literally everything except the songs I don’t like”. Will I surprise you? Possibly and I hope you’ll keep coming back each week for more.
You can hear my weekly show "The Jammin Zone" each and every Friday 7pm till 9pm UK time only on Love Music Radio. The home of great Music.
I would love your company for my first show to be broadcast Friday 2nd March 7-9pm UK time.
